Alterations
and Extension to End Terrace
House,
Mafeking Terrace, Neilston
A
seemingly modest client brief sought to increase the number
of bedrooms in this property by one to create a three bed
house and increase the amount of storage space by
introducing a utility room on the ground floor. Due to the
tight site, however, and the presence of an existing ground
floor extension there was not much room in which to find
this additional accommodation. After careful consideration
of the brief and site constraints Munro Associates worked
out a sympathetic scheme which saw the dormers in the roof
space enlarged and the accommodation on the first floor
rearranged to create a new bathroom and three bedrooms with
built in wardrobes, with the master bedroom also included a
new en-suite. A new porch to the front of the house created
a more visible entrance to the house and also allowed the
creation of a small utility/boot room to achieve the
client's aim of getting further storage within the house.
All external finishes and details were designed to be
sympathetic to the existing house and locality and the
clients were able to stay in the house during the
construction of the additional accommodation.
